Spend an evening atop Massachusett's highest peak!

Join a group of like minded, night sky loving, photographic artists for a workshop under the stars and above nearby towns!

Enjoy expansive views in nearly every direction as the Milky Way stretches over head. Due to its location, the summit of Mount Greylock promises an eerily quiet experience in which you might feel as though you can reach out and touch the stars. And should clouds roll in, we will make the best of it and have a fun time anyway!

Our session is expected to coincide with the shutting off of the monument's new LED lighting system (which now makes the summit too bright to shoot the rest of the year.)

  • The ideal camera settings for high ISO photography.

  • Light painting - Using light to allow for single exposure shooting in dark conditions.

  • Basic astronomy, the seasonality of the night sky and how to incorporate the night sky into your composition.

  • Focusing in the dark.

  • Tracking vs. stacking and noise reduction techniques and ideas.

  • The best cameras and lenses for astro-landscape photography.

  • Post production tips and ideas to think about as you create your shots.

  • Understanding how atmospheric conditions can affect your shoot, even on what looks like a clear night.

  • Recording aurora and meteor events.

Gear Requirements
  1. A digital camera with a wide angle lens that can achieve an aperture of f/2.8.

  2. A sturdy tripod. It shouldn't shake or have any loose parts. Long exposures require complete stillness.

  3. A ball head or pan head mount.

  4. A shutter release cable which will allow your camera to take long exposures (longer than 30 seconds.)

  5. Two fully charged batteries.

Hi, I'm Tim and I am Cape Cod's night photographer! Whether it's starry skies, moonlit beaches or snowy holiday nights, you'll find me outside with my camera capturing the beauty of the area after dark.

I offer these events so you can have a unique and memorable experience and learn something along the way while getting great images! You'll meet some like-minded people in a safe and fun environment.

I've lead over one hundred workshop adventures and four hundred guided night photography tours, hosting thousands of photographers. Hope to see you out there, after dark!

Participants should be in good physical health. A disruption to the group due to known health limitations or over-stating capabilities can spoil the experience for everyone, not just you.
